Corkscrew Willow
The willow is the tree of enchantment. It is said that the wind in the willows is the sound of the fairies whispering into the ears of poets. A water tree, willows are usually found on the banks of streams, rivers and lakes, and in folklore these represent the subconscious, intuition and dreaming. The willow has also long been associated with the moon, and femininity. Many an artist has sat under the willow for inspiration because of this magical space it creates with its beautiful drooping leaves. The willow brings peace and creates a safe haven for the soul that needs rest. It teaches us to take time for rest and contemplation, because when the soul is at rest we are able to gain fresh inspiration and insight; indeed inspiration comes from connectedness to soul. It also provides a haven for the down-trodden and broken hearted, helping us move through our sadness, so that we can heal and feel refreshed and rejuvenated. It is also a healer of physical pain, its active ingredient salicin, which is closely related to aspirin, has been used for centuries as a pain killer and fever reducer. The willow calls out to us with its welcoming branches to take time for true soul rest, peace and enchantment. There is nothing in the world like sitting under a willow on a beautiful breezy day, listening to and watching the leaves blowing in the wind.
