Pussy Willow

Order Pussy Willow Fine Art

The pussy willow is a water dwelling plant growing in swamps and wetlands that blooms in early spring, the time of new life and fertility. Because the pussy willow is an early bloomer, it has developed a fur coat that protects the developing reproductive parts from the frost. However, this furry catkin is duel purposed to look like to the night-flying moths they are trying to attract to fertilize their seeds. Symbolically, swamps and wetlands are places of the unconscious and dream activity in folklore and fairy tale. They represent our inner desires, and intuition. As a member of the willow family, pussy willow is associated with the moon, femininity, enchantment, intuition and dream activity. And so the symbolic meaning of the action of this plant is that first, we need to bring our unconscious desires to the surface. Once we are aware or become conscious of our soul desire, we can focus our energies in the direction we want to achieve. We need to become ourselves, like what we are trying to attract and so like the moth, the pussy willow achieved a glorious metamorphosis.
