Red Oak Giclee

Order Red Oak Fine Art

The iconic image of Greta James Art! The Red Oak introduced her first series of nature spirit and faerie paintings!

The oak tree represents the strength, power, sacredness and divine spirituality of the forest.  Its strong, extensive root system grows just as deep into the earth, as its trunk and branches reach into the heavens.  In this way, the oak symbolizes the world tree, and is represented in creation myths around the world.  The old Celtic priestly class known as the Druids associated the oak tree with the ultimate spirituality and enlightenment.  In fact, the word Druid literally translates to “oak wise”.  Their word for the oak was daur, the origin of the word door.   In their culture the oak was considered the doorway to the spiritual world.   This is because oaks are a living illustration of great wisdom, and the symbolism of their beautiful structure has endless lessons.  They teach us how all of the people, and creatures of the earth, even though we are on different branches, are all part of the same tree, we are all one.   They teach us the graceful beauty of the cycle of life, from the beautiful buds of spring, and the harvesting of nuts, to the lovely color displays of fall and the bare bones of winter.  On a cosmic level they teach us the concept of a universe in a nutshell, with each acorn or world growing off of the universal tree from the umbilical stem, until it falls to the ground and becomes a new tree with millions of acorns in an endless cycle and lineage.  They provide us with food, shelter and medicine.  They offer shade, beauty, and protection.   They clean our air, enrich the soil and shelter and feed the creatures of the forest.  They demonstrate the interconnectedness and precious balance of the web of life, recycling all things.  The oak calls out to us to sit under its branches and ponder upon its many lessons, so they we too can grow in strength, wisdom, generosity, spirituality, and universal awareness.
