Vulture

Vultures represent transformation. Flying scavengers, they are nature’s clean up crew, Feeding on carrion, they take the toxins of death and rot into their being and process it and clean it, therefore the native Americans name for vulture was “the golden purifier” and the Cherokee called it “peace eagle” because unlike other large birds they do not kill, but purify the landscape ensuring the health and life of other living creatures.
Vultures are shamanistic symbols. They represent the oneness of heaven and earth, spirit and matter, life and death. Angels of mercy, they take what is dead and decayed and turn it into life energy. Vultures teach us to use the bounty of the earth to support ourselves, and how to use energy efficiently. Vultures ride the invisible thermals rising from the Earth, using the wind and sun.The vulture teaches us to embrace and understand that there is life in death, which is symbolically displayed by the colors of vultures feathers: black and white with a bright splash of blood red symbolize the transition from life to death to life again.

The Ghost Tree

The American Sycamore tree stands alone. A massive tree it can attain the largest trunk diameter of any of the eastern hardwoods. It is a member of the planet’s oldest clan of trees (plananaceae) – over 100 million years old. A living sycamore can reach ages of 500- 600 years. With all of this living history and such a striking appearance no wonder it’s known as The Ghost Tree. It has such a presence, a ghostly glow that I am always moved by its ethereal beauty.

Tiger Daylily

The Tiger Daylily is one of the loveliest flowers of the summer. Each flower lasts only one day opening with the sunrise and closing with the sunset. Daylilies belong to the genus Hemerocallis. The word Hemerocallis is a Greek word that translates to “beauty” and “day”. Daylilies have long been a symbol of motherhood, femininity and fertility. Its bold orange color represents wealth, and success, joy. It has six tepals (consisting of three petals and three sepals) and six stamens. It opens in June, the six month of the year. The number six is the first perfect number (1, 2 and 3 are its proper divisors and 1+2+3=6). The Daylily reminds us to take time to appreciate that we are completely surrounded by the inexplicable wealth, wonder and perfection of our beautiful fertile mother earth.
